“The gratitude that you receive from others is a reflection of your creative genius.”- Danielle Laporte
As we ponder the question, what do I do in my life where I can both do what I love and make a living at it; I propose another question, “what do people thank you for?”
What is it that you consistent bring to the lives of people around you that generate sincere, organic and overwhelming “THANK YOUs”?
Whether it’s something tangible or intangible, odds are that when you’re doing this thing, it makes you feel good; you know in your heart that you’re good at it and you know that people are going to appreciate it and appreciate you when you’re done!
So then the million dollar question becomes, how do you take this thing and begin to turn it in to work that you love? (work meaning… I get paid to do this!)
Here’s how to get started:
- Listen. Listen for or think about those moments when people or animals even expressed to you sincere gratitude and thankfulness for something you’ve done.
- Write them down. Make a “What Do People Thank Me For?” list, where you make note of these moments every time they happen and answer these questions.
- What did I do?
- Who did I do it for?
- How did it make me feel as I did it and how did I feel when I finished?
- How did this thing make a difference in the person’s life?
- Would I want to do this every day if I could?
- Look for consistencies. There will probably be more than one thing happening here, so that’s why it’s important to catch every moment and make special note of consistencies.
- Discover Your Gift. Review your “What Do People Thank Me For?” list and look for that one thing that consistently showed up and had the most satisfying results. What’s revealed is your God given gift! You may be surprised at the outcome!
- Do it more often but now with intention! Now that you know what people consistently thank you for, do it often and with intention!
- Offer to do it instead of maybe waiting to be asked.
- Begin to study and educate yourself on the details of how to do it better.
- Search for other people who are doing the same thing successfully and are where you want to be.
- Create a POA- Plan of Action! Begin to work on creating a step by step action plan to get you on your way. I’ll help you with this one in upcoming posts and in my soon to be released ebook, “How to Begin to Believe”. So if you would like a copy, subscribe and you’ll be the first to know and don’t worry about the cost, you can pay what you want!

As promised, here is my review of Blog Boldly, the blog that promises to help “Turn Your HOBBY * PASSION * KNOWLEDGE into a profitable business!” I will be testing Blog Boldly for greatness which means I will be looking at a few factors that I think are really important when you are just venturing out into blogging and want to do great things; they are Authenticity, Simplicity, Value, Affordability, Creativity, Consistency, Support/Accessibility, Exceptionals. You can read more about these here. So here we go!
This is Darlene, she is the creator of Blog Boldly. I found Blog Boldly on Twitter. First, she invites you to subscribe to her 20 Day Blog to Profit course where you’ll receive a post everyday for 20 days. Each posts shares tips, tools, resources, advice, support, videos, on everything from the difference between owning and renting a domain name to outsourcing and more. Now on with it!
Authenticity- Darlene, Darlene, Darlene! She immediately comes off like a friend. Right away, I felt like I could trust what she said as accurate and true and felt that she was sincere in her desire help her readers be successful. She is up front about what has and hasn’t worked for her; as well as other info she shares that she really doesn’t have to and I see these as additional and valuable perks.
Simplicity- The Blog Bold site is simple and uncomplicated. The daily posts link you to the respective Blog Boldly website page she’s. The pages are short, the text is large and clear and doesn’t have any unnecessary verbiage, stories or advertisements. However, there is one picture of a young woman dressed in only a t-shirt, sitting up bed with a cup of coffee and computer in her lap in full hair and makeup. I thought that was a little weird but other than that, everything on the page has value!
Value- Now this was what I was most impressed with. Darlene gives away a lot of advice and information that she could easily charge for. I guess I can really appreciate this because I struggled for a longer time, researching a lot of different sources for the information that I got all at Blog Boldly. I thought this was great and best of all it’s free!
Affordability- As I just mentioned, the 20 Day Blog to Profit Course is free. But Darlene does offer private coaching at a cost of “(OPTION 1 – $175. – “Borrow my Brain” for 45 minutes. OPTION 2 – $399. – “Dive In” – Four 30-min sessions)”. This does seem a little costly for me but compared to what she offers free of charge, I can’t imagine the value of the information she offers at a cost. She also gives you coupons for discounts for certain services that you’ll need as you build your site.
Creativity- There’s not a lot on creativity per say but what I will say that the site is clean, is the posts are short, informative and to the point. And they are often funny and insightful. What else do you need?
Consistency- Each post comes every day and consistently has something to offer. Blog Boldly offers what it says it does. Sometimes you think…”it must be more to it than this, it can’t be this easy” but in most cases it is that easy and is more than enough to put you well on your way.
Exceptionals- What I found exceptional about Blog Boldly is that you get a wealth of knowledge and information in these bite sized, easy to managed, compassionate pieces. The information is provided in a way that doesn’t leave you feeling overwhelmed but at the same time, you feel well informed and capable of accomplishing the tasks.
Conclusion- In conclusion, I would definitely recommend you make Blog Boldly a stop on your way to greatness. The information is clear and concise and ideal for someone just starting out or the even the more experienced blogger . At the same time, Darlene is embracing, funny, honest and remembers what it’s like to be in the shoes of someone just starting out. Even if you don’t do the 20 Day Course, check out the website anyway, the “Resources” page, has a lot of good stuff in it that I’m sure you’ll find helpful. In one of her posts after the 20 Day Blog To Profit Course ended, she says her ability to make money on her blog allows her to be of service to others, (and you know how important I think is) and it allows her family freedom. She says, “You MUST get OK with making money….. because if you don’t get right about this in your head, you never will prosper and have the success you deserve.” I agree!
So, great job Darlene/ Blog Boldly!
I’m off to make some money!! (BTW, this was not a paid review… Hey Darlene, let’s talk!)
I have been blogging for a year now with the goal of ultimately making a living by helping others to reach purposeful greatness. I define Purposeful Greatness as greatness that is measured more by what you’ve helped others to accomplish than by what you’ve accomplished yourself! I have had to learn everything from how to embed a video to researching the business side of blogging, to searching for plain old inspiration and still have A LOT to learn. Some of you may have seen my post “Inspirationenergy’s Anniversary Post: 2013 Most Inspiring Turn-To Sites!” where I highlighted some of the websites that I found extremely resourceful during my first year. I have come across dozens of blogs and websites whose claims are to inspire, training, guide, teach, motivate etc., on creating websites, creativity, online businesses and how to do what you love.
So, I created “In Search of Purposeful Greatness… A Review of the Websites & Blogs Most Likely to Get Us There!” to share my experiences as I follow, subscribe and research various websites/blogs and their ability to move us on our path to purposeful greatness. It’s important to mention that I started last year with zero experience in blogging, social media, building a website business etc., so if I find them helpful, you probably will too!
Here are some of the “great” criteria I will be looking for and reporting back to you on:
Sincerity/Authenticity– Does the creator of the site really want to help or is their primary motivation to make money… your money?
Simplicity– Is the site easy to maneuver, can I find what I am look for easily. And is the information provided in a clear and easy to understand way? Or, is it bombarded with ads and other “stuff” or too much stuff!
Value- Is the information being provided valuable and necessary to gaining purposeful greatness? Can I gain access to this information for free and without having to commit to “paid membership” before gaining any benefit?
Affordable- When there are fees, are they reasonable for the services being provided?
Authority– Does this person really know what they’re talking about? Now, this doesn’t mean that the creator has to have years of experience of college degrees, because some of the best sites are done by people simply driven by a sincere desire to help you by sharing their real experiences in an informed way i.e. purposeful greatness!
Creativity- Is the information and process provided in a creative and interesting way?
Consistency- Is information being provided consistently and is up to date? And are they providing the services that they are marketing and there’s no bait and switch.
Support/Accessibility- Is the creator/ team accessible? Are their opportunities to ask questions that they will answer in a timely fashion without cost?
Exceptionals- Is the site exceptional in some unexpected way?
Here is how it works! At least once a month, I will select and subscribe to a website/blog. I will periodically post on my experiences throughout the month and give a overall review of the site when I’m finished. I will be honest about my experiences and definitely let you know when I think a site is mostly likely to lead you to purposeful greatness! Also, if you happen to be familiar with the site, you can share your comments as well. And finally, if you would like me to test your site for purposeful greatness or another site that you’re curious about but just don’t have the time to check out, leave a comment and let me know just make sure that the site is in line with our mission and I’ll put it on my list.
So the first site I will be testing for purposeful greatness is Blog Boldly! Blog Boldly says it will help you to ” Turn Your HOBBY * PASSION * KNOWLEDGE into an online business, learn how to setup a blog that makes you money and offers a Free 20-Day Blog to Profit Course”. I’m already in to Day 15 of the course.
Look for my post/ tweet next Monday for the complete results!
I’m goin’ in, see you soon!
