Introducing: believebegreat!

Hey everyone! I want to introduce to you my new website/blog,  believebegreat!

Our ability to believe in ourselves dictates the quality of our lives and the extent to which we can be of service to others.  But very often we can be hindered by how we are perceived by others and most importantly, how we perceive ourselves.

From time to time we may find ourselves wrestling with indecisiveness, self-doubt,  procrastination, laziness and/or a lack of self worth.  And far too often we live in sacrifice to those we love and those who sign our paychecks, rarely making our own personal needs a priority.

I’ve spent the last year studying the power of believing and the greatness it can cause.  And I started the blog inspirationenergy to showcase great people, places, moments, and causes and to inspire people to do great things. This blog shortly over 20,000 views and nearly 2,000 followers. But more importantly, what I’ve learned, I share with you at believebegreat!

So check it out thank you for following me here at inspirationenergy!

And remember no matter what you’re setting out to do, I promise you, like me, at some point during this process, you will wake up one morning overwhelmed by the potential of the day and know at the end of the day, you’ve filled every minute with purpose and greatness!

Hump DAY WednesDay! HappY MotheR’S Day!

I know that its not officially mothers’ day but as a mother, I think its always a good time to show a little appreciation for all mothers!  It seems that no matter how hard we work or what we do, we somehow still expect more from ourselves, feeling like we’ re not doing enough or doing it good enough etc.  But the truth is, we do a hell of a job!  We love, support, disciple, feed, hug, wipe tears, laugh at jokes that aren’t funny, we clean and iron, pickup and drop off, we are the alarm clock, the guardian,  fashion consultant and confidant and best friend. And I just want to remind us to give ourselves a break, there is no other person paid or unpaid that can do what we do even on our worse day!  Am I ranting? !  I hope not, I’m just passionate about who we are and what we do!  Lets make it a practice to remind ourselves and each other of just how great we are everyday! Start now, share one “motherly” thing  that you do that makes you a great mom…me first!

“I’m a great mom because… I make it a point to encourage my girls and make them feel good about themselves especially when they’ve had a bad day.”

a dream for you, a dream for you and a dream for you!

Check out the article from one of my favorites sites, Brain Pickings entitled,  “Happy Birthday, Brain Pickings: 7 Things I Learned in 7 Years of Reading, Writing, and Living”.  It shares some of the best advice I have read in 1000 words or less on how to live a life that will give birth to our dreams!

It Happened!!!

It happened!  Effective July 19, 2013, I along with my co workers will be LAID OFF!  I have worked for four non profits over the past 25 years and funding is always a challenge and is very much the down side of working in this arena.

Nevertheless, here I am and the question now is, do I bury myself into hunting for new job or do I practice what I preach and commit myself to my passion, to doing what I love…inspirationenergy!  Armed with  the overwhelming call to live beyond my intentions, I am prayerfully and faithfully choosing the latter!  Am I scared? Yes!! But I have a greater fear of not making the most of this moment …right now!

Here are some of the things I’ve been working on and now have the time to make happen sooner rather than later here at inspirationenergy;

Monday Motivation- Debbie Millman “Advice on Courage and the Creative Life”

“If you imagine less, less will be what you undoubtedly deserve. Do what you love, and don’t stop until you get what you love. Work as hard as you can, imagine immensities, don’t compromise, and don’t waste time. Start now. Not 20 years from now, not two weeks from now. Now.”

First World Problems

Gratitude-First World Problems

She's got legs

I am quite fond of the acronym ‘FWP’. I will often throw it out there after someone asks me about a challenge at work, just to remind myself that my problems are so few and so incredibly small relative to those of the majority of the people on this planet.

Recently, I was made wholly aware of the fact that the challenges I have with my prosthetic leg are also rooted in the first world context.

I have spent a fair amount of time in South-East Asia as part of my professional life. Every time I return to this part of the world I am reminded of how much I take for granted the luxuries of the first world – education, health care, potable running water, roads, transportation infrastructure, a safe and secure food supply, security, a functioning justice system, the list goes on and on. And every time I’m…
